Q: Mouse red light/sensor not working?

I bought my mac book pro a little over a year ago and I bought the Mouse with it.  Love the mac book pro and the mouse but the mouse red light/sensor has stopped working.  I have replaced batteries (new) and the green power light illuminates and flashes - the mouse appears to be paired to the mac book pro but the red sensor/light does not illuminate.  Any ideas?  Is it a total write-off or is it repairable?

Grateful for your views

What red light?   If it is an Apple Magic Mouse the sensor does not show as red.   Do you have an Apple mouse?

Hi,  Thanks for the response. The sensor on my apple magic mouse is/was red. But does not illuminate anymore.  It is the IR sensor next to the on/off switch on the underside of the mouse.

That's why I asked if the mouse was indeed an Apple mouse.   The IR stands for Infra red but it shouldn't glow red.   If you had a mouse using an LED optic, that would glow.

Your green light should be steady, not flashing.  Are you using good quality batteries, Duracell, energiser or Apple?

It does sound like possible ill fitting batteries, I certainly wouldn't write it off just yet.   If you have an Apple store nearby take it in for assessment.

    Hi Seventy One,

Well there's feeling a fool now!  I've got it working and of course you are right - the sensor doesn't emit any light.  When it didn't work I looked at another mouse I use with another laptop and just assumed that like it my apple mouse should emit a red light ..... ??

Anyway - I noticed that the mac book still had the mouse as connected but it just didn't respond to any movements.  In the end I just tried switching the mac book off completely and turning back in again.  And hey presto mouse works again!!

    Many thanks for the help
