Q: Some drivers are not installed properly in boot camp Windows 8.1

Hello,

I have just installed Windows 8.1 Pro with boot camp assistant on my Macbook Pro (Early 2015), but some drivers are not installed properly, and the network doesn't work.

When choosing between Mac OS X and Windows at booting time, I am able to choose the network and it seems connected. But during Windows is booting, it pops an error and says Windows will be restarted, and finally Windows can be launched, but the network is not working, and I see some SPI devices and network drivers are not installed.

Do you have any suggestion about how to solve these problems?

Many thanks,

Jiao

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, mszhangjiao.

It looks like you're having problems with missing drivers after installing Windows 8.1 Pro on your MacBook Pro via Bootcamp. Receiving errors when booting onto the Windows side of your Mac is certainly not expected behavior so I can understand why you would reach out for some help with this.

All of the necessary drivers needed to support Windows on your Mac should have been downloaded and installed after starting up Windows for the first time. If for some reason they were not all installed properly, you can reinstall those drivers here: Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5640

If you continue to experience the same issue, reply back and let me know exactly what the error message says that you're receiving.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

    Have an awesome day!

    Hi Sarah_s1,

    Thanks for your quick reply!

Unfortunately, Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5640 doesn't work for my MacBook Pro, which is Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015. The installation stops upon running. The system requirements for 5.1.5640 are as below:

    • MacBook Air (11-inch & 13-inch, Early 2014)
    • MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch & 15-inch, Mid 2014)
    • MacBook Air (11-inch & 13-inch, Mid 2013)
    • MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch & 15-inch, Late 2013)
    • Mac Pro (Late 2013)
    • iMac (21.5-inch & 27-inch, Late 2013)
    • Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1, 64 bit

I guess since Early 2015, Boot Camp Assistant replaced Boot Camp Support Software?

I will try to reinstall the Windows and see if I am luckier today. If you have more suggestions, please let me know.

    Thanks again,

    Jiao

    Hi Sarah_s1,

I tried to reinstalled Windows just now, and it has exactly the same issue as before.

I am wondering if you can direct me to the network adapter driver for my MacBook Pro, which is Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015, and I will install it manually. I tried to find it but wan't able to find the correct one. With the network working, I might be able to fix other drivers more easily.

Of course if you have better solutions, please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Jiao
