Apple watch unlock without phone use

Hello, I wanted to learn how to unlock my apple watch without having my phone nearby. Is there a setting for this? How can I do this? Currently my apple watch won't unlock unless my phone is nearby.

Thank you.

If you are referring instead to this status icon on your watch face:

User uploaded file

then note that it is normal for your watch to become disconnected from your iPhone via Bluetooth when the devices are moved out of Bluetooth range of each other. The Disconnected status icon is shown on the watch face if your watch cannot connect to a known Wi-Fi network at the time as a fallback.

Hi Michael

You can achieve that by using these settings:

- On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > General > Wrist Detection - turn this on.

- On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Passcode > Turn Passcode on (choose either a Simple Passcode or a more complex one).

- Also on the Passcode settings screen, enable Unlock with iPhone.

After putting it on your wrist, your watch will then unlock after whatever you do first: either unlocking your watch manually (by entering the passcode) or unlocking your iPhone.

It will then remain unlocked (including when the screen is asleep) until you remove it from your wrist. When you remove your watch, it will lock automatically.
