iPhone 6 duplicates Apple Watch Bike Workout as steps, walking/running and stairs climbed

I have an iPhone 6 and Apple Watch. I use them with the Apple Workout application as well as MyFitnessPal. I noticed that when doing an Apple Watch bike workout, the iPhone tracks the movement as if I had been walking, adding 3000+ steps, walking/running distance and stairs climbed for the exact same time period. When doing an Apple Watch walking workout, there is no double recording of the data. I have been going into the Health App and deleting the erroneous data, but thought I'd see if anyone else has encountered this.

iOS: 9.3.2

watchOS: 2.2.1

Any help would be appreciated!
