I Click on FaceTime on my iPad Mini to activate Face Time

2 I sign in

3 I am asked to verify my email address

4 this brings me to sign in to my Apple ID

5 ????? What next? There is no obvious next step

moreover the email address is my Apple ID and is used by me all the time for all payments to Apple

any suggestions welcome.
