MBP Running Inexplicably Slow

For the last couple of days, my mid-2012 13" MBP has been running super slow. I can't recall any specific trigger like a software install or update but many applications beachball frequently and the computer can take 15 minutes or more to restart. I've tried logging in Safe mode and creating a separate login for the machine and neither resulted in an appreciable increase in operating speed. The latest Etrecheck report is below. I have also uninstalled Adobe Photoshop, Amazon Music, and the Sophos Anti-Virus program in recent days although all had been on the machine for years now.

EtreCheck version: 2.9.12 (265)

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

Launch the Console application in any one of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.

Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.

Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

When you post the log extract, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

If you have an account on Pastebin, please don't select Private from the Paste Exposure menu on the page, because then no one but you will be able to see it.

I opened the lid to my computer this morning after not using for about ~16 hours and I got a black screen until I did a hard restart by pressing the power button. Per the instructions, I opened the console and saw this message repeated over and over during that timeframe:

7/6/16 8:42:59.344 AM WindowServer[208]: GPU Driver appears to be hung (over 5 continuous seconds of unreadiness)

After those messages finally ended, this is what I got:

7/6/16 8:43:18.097 AM watchdogd[207]: [watchdog_daemon] @(_wd_daemon_service_thread) - service (com.apple.WindowServer) reported as unresponsive

7/6/16 8:43:21.551 AM useractivityd[340]: application (null) considered for activity continuation, but rejected because it will not run using a suitable architecture

7/6/16 8:43:29.231 AM Dock[265]: -[UABestAppSuggestionManager notifyBestAppChanged:type:options:bundleIdentifier:activityType:dynamicIdentifi er:when:confidence:deviceName:deviceIdentifier:deviceType:] (null) UASuggestedActionType=0 (null)/(null) opts=(null) when=2016-07-06 15:43:29 +0000 confidence=1 from=(null)/(null) (UABestAppSuggestionManager.m #319)

7/6/16 8:43:36.000 AM kernel[0]: **** [IOBluetoothHostControllerUSBTransport][InterruptReadHandler] -- Received kIOReturnNotResponding error - retrying: 1

7/6/16 8:43:36.000 AM kernel[0]: **** [IOBluetoothHostControllerUSBTransport][ClearFeatureInterruptEndpointHalt] -- successfully posting another read for the mInt0InterruptPipe -- mInterruptPipeInOutstandingIOCount = 1 -- this = 0xd800

And then that cycle repeated itself.

If you've replaced the memory modules with aftermarket parts, please reinstall the original memory and see whether there's an improvement. Otherwise, see below.

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider. You may have to leave the machine there for several days.

Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.

If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

Keep your confidential data secure during hardware repair.

Apple recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.

*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
