My Apple TV Remote has stopped responding to the up command. Changing the battery and rebooting did to help. Any one have any ideas?

How can I fix an Apple TV Remote that has stopped responding to the "up" command? It works otherwise but not being able to scroll up is awkward. I have tried changing the battery and rebooting.

Silver or Siri remote? How old is it? Has it been dropped onto a hard surface?

If it was caused by a spill, this will clean it.

There has been a small number of reports of some of the buttons on the silver remote becoming unresponsive, in all cases I've seen reported here the only solution has been to replace the remote.
