OS X El Capitan download TOO SLOW

I am trying to download OS X El Capitan from the App Store in order to do a fresh install in a new HDD. But when I try to download it, the speed is SOO SLOW and I don't know why. My internet connection is working good and everything is perfect here. I've tried downloading different softwares and all went good, it just happens with OS X El Capitan.

Why is that happening? What should I do? Is that an Apple problem?

Try doing a pause of the download (not a stop/cancel) and then do a re-start of the download.

Already did that several times and it didn't work. Also I read different posts regarding this issue and it said to change the DNS, also it didn't work.

Hey, I solved the problem. I found two working DNS that helped me download the OS X.

Go to System Preferences > Network > Advanced > DNS remove any existing DNS entries and add either of the following:

208.67.222.222

203.122.233.11

I just finished downloading it... From 2 days to 30mins!

Having the same issue. I tried that DNS, restarted the computer and still have super slow download speeds. I've also tried the google DNS, but no luck on that either. Any thoughts all?

First one loads but is still slow.

Second one does not load.

Be sure that you connect to the Internet with an Ethernet cable instead of wifi before you try one of the DNS servers from above.

I have done that. I am connected through ethernet. I am located in the US if that helps, I've read on reddit that the DNS servers above are for Australia?

The problem here is truly with your internet provider.

Changing your DNS settings CAN increase your response time due to the reason that your ISP DNS servers having some sort of problem. This can be do to an outage or being being hammered with other users.

You should change your DNS settings on both your osx and on your router.

Here is a list of free public DNS servers that you can use. I believe the ones that you provided are from OpenNIC, which imo is a good option but other users might have a better result using another.

Google also has a tool named namebench to that will find the best DNS server for you.

It's a bit old but it does work with 10.11.5

Also remember after doing any DNS changes you should flush

# sudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder

If you check the comment above you can find a list of providers and a tool that will find the best DNS servers for you.

Thank you! Worked like a charm! Changed my download time from 14-8 hours to 20 minutes. Take note Apple! There are probably a million users out there who have no idea how to fix this and FYI grey type on a blue-grey background is pretty much invisible! I could barely make out the time on the status bar which is probably intentional since no one in their right mind thinks 14 hours to download an OS is acceptable!
