Ignore it. It's a marketing scam to sell you some worthless "anti-virus" product.
how do you know for sure? botnet sounds legit. i just called and they confirmed the emails and mentioned Sophos, which i'm unfamiliar with.
Do not install Sophos or any other third party app that claims to protect, clean, mange, boost performance, or anything else. These apps are not required and they may cause problems.

All such anti-malware/antivirus apps and so called "cleaners" are worthless and cause more problems than they solve. Mac OS X has all the built-in routines you need to keep your system running well and keeps an updated list of virus definitions.
