Q: Compressor / QT fail to open and convert MPEG-4 4:2:2

Hi everyone

I received a video I want to edit and it does play in VLC but it only plays the audio in QT (7 and newer) and cannot be opened / converted in Compressor (recent version). VLC's info says:

Codec: H.264 MPEG-4 AVC (part 10)

Resolution: 1920x1090

Screen resolution: 1920x1080

Framerate: 25fps

Decoded format: Planar 4:2:2 YUV

Audio is AAC at 48kHz stereo.

Could it be because of the resolution gap of 10 pixels in height? Or is QT / compressor just unable to read 4:2:2?

Thank you for any help

Compressor will open non standard frame sizes and 4:2:2 sampling (and higher).

So neither is (or should be) the problem.

What is the origin of the clips?

    Hi Russ

Update: Compressor actually plays the audio but not the video and fails to convert it. So it pretty sure is a video codec problem.

Also, I saw that the bit rate varies with a maximum around 17 MB/s - could that be a problem?

The clip was written to a drive as a stream from a video mixing desk, although I don't know any details (gear, OS etc.). Will have to check with those guys who did it then as I cannot see a solution coming up within the usual apps.

    Thanks

Nope. The bit rate shouldn't cause any issues.

Think you are correct in suspecting the video codec. Possibly a proprietary version t that the mixing equipment manufacturer outputs. If you want to upload a sample to Dropbox (or whatever you use) we could take a look at it.
