Hacked Apple ID

I received an email telling me my apple id is being billed for purchases that I haven't made. My bank details are not connected to my Apple ID. Am I safe just changing my password or is there anything else I can do?

iPhone 5s, iOS 9.3.2

One possibility is that the email is not from Apple and may be an attempt to get you to respond and enter your password (i.e., phishing). You can use the following to verify that there have in fact been purchases made: See your purchase history in the iTunes Store on a Mac or PC - Apple Support
