Q: imported CDs to PC; how to transfer to iPhone

Setup:

iPhone 6 plus is running iOS 9.3.2

I have an Apple Music subscription

I have been avoiding using iCloud

PC is a Sony VAIO with iTunes 12.4.1.6

---

Problem:  I imported 7 CDs (a book, but it imported into Music on the PC)

I want to transfer this book to my iPhone

I created a playlist containing all the tracks from the book

I attached my iPhone via USB

While running iTunes on the PC, I can see the new playlist under Music Playlists

I can see my iphone under Devices

But I can't see any way to transfer the playlist to the iPhone

I don't see any Sync option

I tried dragging the playlist onto my device in the left-hand panel of iTunes, but nothing happened.

When I look at Help in iTunes, it says I can't add playlists via sync if I have an Apple Music subscription.

It says to see documentation for my device.

But I can't find any information for my device to help me get this playlist onto my phone.

What to do?

Can I do this without using iCloud?  I prefer to have my material "physically" on my device and not in the cloud.

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 9.3.2

    Hey there, teachinator!

It seems that you are having issues syncing a playlist of audiobooks you've ripped onto your PC to your iPhone that has an Apple Music subscription. You've done a lot of troubleshooting for your problem. I’ll be happy to help provide the solution for you. The following article, goes over how to:

Add music from the Apple Music catalog to your library on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or PC

To add songs, albums and playlists from Apple Music to My Music, make sure to turn on iCloud Music Library on your device.

The best news is, you can download your audiobooks to your phone so that you can listen to them even when you're not connected to the internet. Scroll down in the above article to the heading "Download songs, albums, and playlists to listen to offline."

Before you turn on your iCloud Music Library, make sure you have a backup of your music - About Apple Music

Apple Music doesn't include a backup service, so make sure that you always have a backup of your music collection.

Happy listening and thanks for using Apple Support Communities!
