Q: Dell U2715H as second monitor sleep issue

I just bought a Dell U2715H monitor to connect to my iMac 27" mid 2010.

At setting up, the system worked just fine. Plug and play, like we are used to in the Apple universe.

But, after an automatic start-up this morning, the Dell stayed black, whatever I tried.

A phone call with the Dell helpdesk did not bring a solution; they are willing to exchange the monitor for a new one, but I don't think (just a feeling) that will tackle the problem.

After having a cup of coffee I came back to my Mac, which had fallen asleep in the mean time.

Hitting a key brought the whole system to life, including (surprise) the Dell monitor.

After some experimenting, I found out that after a restart, the Dell stays black.

Bringing the system to sleep (by using a hot corner) and hitting a key doesn't wake up the Dell.

Bringing the system to sleep and hitting a key after having waited 10-20 seconds, brings the whole system to life, including the Dell monitor.

The monitor is connected to a mid 2010 iMac 27" 2.93 GHz Intel Core i7, with a miniDP to DP cable.

Although I found this "solution" after hours of frustrating attempts, it this feels a bit akward.

Anyone familiar with this problem who found a more definitive solution ?

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), 8 Gb RAM - 1,5 Tb harddisk
