Firewire 800 to USB 3.0

I have an older iMac that has a Firewire 800 and no 3.0 USB.

I would like to use the Firewire 800 port and convert it to a 3.0 USB with some sort of connection.

That way i can take advantage of the newer 3.0 USB items..

Can this be done?

No.

FireWire and USB are mutually exclusive data transfer protocols.

There are no adapters that convert the different electrical and signal paths, either.

If your iMac is an older Mac with only USB 2.0 and FireWire 800, buy peripherals that use FW800.

FireWire is faster than USB 2.0

OWC (macsales.com) is a good source for everything Apple/Mac related and they still carry peripheral devices that use FW800.

Good Luck!
