Q: Multiple Kernel Panics

My MacBookPro has been having multiple kernel panic since a couple of weeks ago (maybe more)... I was still using Yosemite because when I updated to "El Capitan" last year my Mac became unstable and very slow, I ended changing its hard disk...

I though that the current problem was that I was still using Yosemite so I decided to do a clean installation... Then I went to App Store to look for updates, while updating iMovie a kernel panic occurred again...

If you are seeing recurring kernel panics that are essentially random, you like are the proud owner of a LOT of bad memory.

Memory problems are extremely difficult to isolate, and it is possible you have Bad DIMMs in both your new and old sets. To make substantial progress, you need to do one or both of:

    • eliminate known bad DIMMs

this may mean running all night memory tests for a week or more.

    • introduce known good DIMMs

this may mean just buying some new ones from a reputable Vendor that offers a money-back guarantee.

If RAM problems have corrupted your MacOS on disk, that will cause a repeatable failure in the same routine, same failure every time. That is why the seemingly random failures are so indicative of RAM problems.

I ended buying a new RAM and sent the other one back to the seller for reparation ("CFD"), unfortunately I didn't have the original RAM anymore. I could only get the "Buffalo" brand because it was the other only choice besides CFD

I downgraded the amount of RAM too... I had 16Gb before and decided to install 8Gb, the limit suggested by Apple.

    It works well so far...

Thanks to all for your replies.
