I can tell from your post that you're having an issue with being able to connect to the App Store. Since I use the App Store frequently for updates and downloading new content, I can see where it would be a problem if it wasn't connecting correctly. No worries though, we can take a look at a few things that should get it connected again.
What we want to do is take a look at this article since it has the steps that should resolve it for you. Even though it mentions the iTunes Store instead of the App Store, the troubleshooting steps for it would be the same since they connect the same way. The steps are under 'Fix the issue on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch' in this article:
If you can’t connect to the iTunes Store
If for some reason that doesn't take care of it, the next step that we'd want to do is to Reset Network Settings. To do this, click on Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This won't delete any of your user data like music or pictures but it'll delete things like your remembered Wi-Fi networks, passwords, and VPN settings.
Make it an awesome day!
