battery dying too fast on watch

I have had my watch over a year. Just a couple of days ago I realized the battery life has been dying too quickly. yesterday I had to charge it mid day.

Today it has been off of charger for 4 hours and now 59% of battery is gone. I reset it last night, it is showing connected and when I go to settings - bluetooth - it is just spinning searching only.

Help please

Hi

If you have not yet done so, it may help to update your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest software, starting with your iPhone:

Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Otherwise, the following steps have helped to resolve issues with battery life for some users:

Try restarting both your iPhone and watch:

  • Turn both devices off together, then restart your iPhone first:
  • To turn your watch off: press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; drag it to turn off.
  • To turn it back on: press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

If that does not help, next try unpairing and re-pairing your watch:

For the best performance from your watch, also keep both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth permanently enabled on your iPhone.

To check whether your watch is connected to your iPhone via Bluetooth, do not go to the Home screen > Settings > Bluetooth on your watch. This is how to tell the watch to search for and pair with additional Bluetooth devices (eg a headset). It is normal for the paired iPhone not to be listed there and for the screen to report "searching".

Instead, go to the Settings Glance:

  • When viewing the time on your watch face, swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen, then swipe left / right until you find the Settings Glance.
  • This will state either Connected or Disconnected:
    • Connected and a green phone symbol means that your watch is connected to your iPhone via Bluetooth.
    • Connected and a green cloud symbol means that your watch is disconnected from your iPhone via Bluetooth, but has instead connected (as a fallback) to a known Wi-Fi network.
  • Swipe down again to return to the watch face.

You do not seem to be suggesting that you have yet tried the steps suggested in my first reply: restarting and re-pairing your devices.

The following further steps may also help:

If you have used any third-party fitness tracking apps (such as Strava) to record workouts, check whether there is presently a paused activity within any of those apps.

  • If there is, end the activity from within that app on your watch (not on your iPhone).

Under earlier versions of iOS and watchOS, some users reported experiencing battery life issues in connection with using corporate profiles and/or Exchange Calendars. If you are using an Exchange Calendar, one or more of these steps may help:

  • Archive your Exchange Calendar for all items before today.
  • Remove / delete all old inbox messages relating to calendar invites (accept and decline notifications).
  • Create a rule in your Outlook Mail account that moves all future accept and decline replies - immediately upon receipt - into a separate mail folder that does not sync with your iPhone and Apple Watch.
  • Check your Exchange Calendar for errors.

Remove all third-party apps from your watch and then monitor battery performance after adding them back, one by one.

  • The same applies in respect of watch face complications.

My point being, even though the issue just started 2 days ago, your watch shouldn't be losing battery life at the rate you've mentioned.

Did you read the post from the link I posted ...

That's what happened to me. I would charge my watch and it wouldn't even charge at all and when I had it on the charge it would decrease my battery instead of charging it so I am sending mine in for repair.

You should contact apple support and they will send you a box to your house if you don't have an apple store near you, you send in your watch and if your watch needs to be repaired they will repair it and if it something they can't fix, they will give you a replacement watch.

If, before asking your question here, you:

- Had already restarted both your iPhone and your watch.

- Had already unpaired and re-paired your watch.

- After doing each, had charged your watch again fully and then re-tested battery performance.

- Had also already tried the other suggested steps.

Then I suggest that you contact Apple Support or make a Genius Bar reservation for assistance.

As your watch is out of warranty (unless you previously purchased AppleCare+), it may be eligible for chargeable, out-of-warranty service / battery service (depending on Apple's assessment and diagnosis).
