Q: Ugh!  iTunes

How do I get iTunes to stop popping up?  I have El Capitan and this is driving me nuts!  It's not due to any phones, etc. plugging in; it just happens out of no where (or when I search for stuff on google, I get an iTunes page of things to buy... weird).  HELP!  At this point I'm fine with just deleting iTunes (if that's safe to do).  Thanks.

If you are using a browser & click a link to an iTunes product it will open in iTunes - this is normal. It includes apps, music, movies etc. If it happens without any interaction you may be a victim of malware or adware. Do you see the behaviour on all websites or just in google results? Disable any extensions in Safari if you have them active & retry…

Install and manage Safari extensions on your Mac - Apple Support (see the last section).

I'd suggest you do not delete iTunes (never delete built in apps) but rather focus on what could be causing this behaviour, it seems abnormal if you are getting it everywhere.

It's not safe to delete the iTunes app as it works in random with other OS X apps.

It might be a cookies issue.

If you are using Safari, go to the Safari menu bar then click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab then click: Remove All Website Data.

    Quit then relaunch Safari.
