Q: Text message forwarding doesn't work unless iPhone is unlocked

SMS and iMessage texts won't sync to my Mac unless I unlock my phone and open the Messages app. I've tried formatting my Mac and reinstalling El Capitan, as well as factory restoring my iPhone. I can't seem to fix this issue.

Could this possibly be a network issue? I'm not sure how though, since without fail every time, all I have to do is unlock my phone and open Messages, and that's when they show up on my Mac.

It appears that your iPhone 6 Plus and your Mac Mini are up-to-date but you're having problems with text message forwarding. You'll only get them on your Mac after you unlock your iPhone and open the Message app on it. Since you should be getting SMS and iMessages on both devices, let's get that working.

Use Continuity to connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac -- Make sure that Messages is set up correctly on both your iPhone and Mac.

Also, make sure that your phone number has been added to your Messages account on your Mac -- Add or remove your phone number to iMessage or FaceTime on your Mac, iPad, and iPod touch
