Automatic On-The-Go Playlists?

So I've had an iPod Classic I've been using for years, and it's recently begun having this problem where every time I plug it into my laptop to sync, the ipod creates On-The-Go playlists without me telling it to. It'll create anywhere from 2-6 copies of the same playlist, and it's always a selection of songs from the last of my own playlist that I listened to. Each time I delete these On-The-Go playlists and they disappear, but each time it happens again. Again, I have not been making any On-The-Go playlists myself. How do I stop this from happening?
