From your post, it seems you're unable to locate a movie you've rented from the iTunes Store on your iPad. I definitely want you to be able to view that movie so I'll be glad to help.
About renting movies from the iTunes Store -- Open that article and scroll down to where it reads "Find movies you rented previously"How long you have to watch
You have 30 days to start watching a movie after you rent it. After you start watching the movie, you have 24 hours (in the US) or 48 hours (elsewhere) to finish it. You can watch the movie as often as you like until it expires.

No, you don't. If the rental was downloaded directly to the device, the right to play it has already been determined.
