Q: Headphones remote not working w/ iphone 6

Not sure when the problem started, if it was when I got my iPhone 6 or after that (possibly with an iOS update?), but now with some of my headphones the inline remote won't work (volume, click to play and skip tracks, etc.).  Sound is still fine, but no controls.  This has affected my Sony headphones (which I know worked with my iPhone 4S) and some of my Apple earbuds that I have.  Other Apple earbuds work fine, so not sure if some of them are a newer generation?

I just tried my Sony headphones on my work Android phone, and the remote works, so it's not the headphones, it's the iPhone.  I cleaned the jack out, too.

I tried searching but didn't find any solutions.  Thanks for any help!

    Hello bcemail!

I can certainly see where being able to control the volume with the built-in remote is a feature that you'd want to work since it makes controlling the volume so much easier.  Thank you for testing out several different ones, also with other devices, already since that does help out.  Check out this article here for more information and troubleshooting steps to take with this issue (you've already done some of them so you can just skip over those):

If your headphones don‘t work with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Once you've finished the top part, make sure to do the steps in the part for the remote on the Apple EarPods:

If the buttons on your Apple EarPods don't work

    1. Check for debris in the gap between the top and bottom covers of your remote.
A remote on the cable of the Apple EarPods
    2. Gently tap the remote to dislodge debris. If you still see debris, brush it away with a soft-bristled brush that's clean and dry.

If your remote still doesn't work, contact Apple Support.

    Have a great day!

    Cheers!
