Q: Audio import issue with FCP X

I am editing a short film in FCP X. I have about 6 minutes of footage and audio currently imported and edited with no issues. Suddenly, all audio files I'm trying to import are crackling and distorting and at maximum volume. They are unusable. It is also refusing the sync with the visual files properly (another issue that was not happening before now). The sound files outside of Final Cut are completely fine. Does anyone know why these files would be distorting once they import or how I can resolve this issue? Currently, the last scene of this film is unusable because of this issue.

Final Cut Pro X, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

Firstly you could try resettingthe FCP X preferences.

Close FCP X and reopen holding Option-Command.

Also check if Audio Anaylzing was set to auto in the Import Window:

    Uncheck any selections.

Also check here for existing clips the Timeline:

Noise removal can weird do stuff to audio.
