Q: How to tell when MacBook is charged

Will the 12" MacBook Retina show the level of battery charge if you lift the screen while the MacBook is powered-off and charging?

Charging stops when the battery is charged to 100%.

No, but it will if you unplug the cord and then plug it back in.

Thanks!  I was sure I had seen this somewhere on the MacBook forum, but I could not find it by searching.

I have AppleCare and I just called Apple Support to ask the same question - they were not aware of the feature and told me it did not exist!!!  I said "Is this an authoritative answer, so I should stop looking for information about this feature?"  They said yes!

I just checked my MacBook and it does what you said - if I unplug the charger when the MacBook is charging while powered-off, then plug it back in, the screen flashes a battery icon that shows the charge level.

Someone should tell AppleCare's support staff about this feature - or maybe they will read this thread.

It helps that I own one. Also, there should be an audible tone, similar to what an iPhone makes, shortly after the cord is plugged in.
