Q: My apple watch battery is draining crazy fast after restoring my phone and repairing it

I have recently been experiencing trouble charging my phone. I restored it to factory settings, and then restored the backup, both to the phone and the watch. The phone still won't charge right, but that's not the most pressing issue at the moment. Since i repaired my apple watch, the battery has been draining like crazy, even though I turned it on airplane mode, limited notifications, and turned down the brightness. In addition, all of my activity and workouts are gone. The watch doesn't remember my heart rate from the thousands of miles I've run, biked, etc. Before the repairing, I could have the brightness all the way up, have all notifications on, off airplane mode, and go on a three hour run without having to charge it from waking up until the evening. Now, the battery is dead before lunchtime. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi John

    Historic health and activity data is stored on your iPhone, not on your watch.

    When erasing and restoring your iPhone, in order for that historic data (along with other sensitive data, such as saved passwords) to be retained, it is necessary to first make an encrypted backup of your iPhone and then, after erasing your iPhone, to restore it from that encrypted backup.

    iCloud backups are encrypted automatically. If using iTunes, it is necessary to select the option to "Encrypt iPhone backup".

    In respect of your battery life issue, the following steps have helped to resolve similar issues for some users:

    • Try restarting both your iPhone and watch:
      • Turn both devices off together, then restart your iPhone first;
      • To turn your watch off: press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; drag it to turn off.
      • To turn it back on: press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.

    • For the best performance from your watch, keep both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth permanently enabled on your iPhone.

    • If you have previously used any third-party fitness tracking apps (such as Strava) to record workouts, check whether there is presently a paused activity within any of those apps.
      • If there is, end the activity from within that app on your watch (not on your iPhone).

    I have same issue just "down graded" in what I thought would be an up grade, to an iphone 6s after pairing to the new 6s my watch now drains before 11am from a full charge at 6am. horrible!  I have done every trick apple suggests but no fix.  I hope apple has update coming or a real solution to this problem other than re-boot or re-pair of which I have done like 5 times now.  This really concerns me since I paid a lot of $ for the watch and then 2x the $ for the 6s to have my watch now useless!

    What say you Apple?

    Also, under earlier software versions, some users reported experiencing battery life issues in connection with using corporate profiles and/or Exchange Calendars.

    If you are using an Exchange Calendar, one or more of these steps may help:

    • Archive your Exchange Calendar for all items before today.
    • Remove / delete all old inbox messages relating to calendar invites (accept and decline notifications).
    • Create a rule in your Outlook Mail account that moves all future accept and decline replies, immediately upon receipt, into a separate mail folder that does not sync with your iPhone and Apple Watch.
    • Check your Exchange Calendar for errors.

    If none of the previous suggestions resolves the issue, I suggest that you contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available) or make a Genius Bar reservation for assistance, including with a view to having your watch checked if recommended by Apple (under warranty, if eligible):

    Hi

    You are not talking with Apple here - this is a user-based community.

    Ok, so after many hours of research and trail and errors, I came up with this.  If you are using any thing on your watch face that has moon phases or sun set/ sun rise the watch will continually work in back ground to keep those up to date and thus kill your battery and not let the watch go to stand by.  When I went to new phone the moon phase was applied to my watch face and that was what was killing the battery from 100% to dead in less than 4 hours, when I took the sunset/sunrise off and the moon phase off batty life returned to normal. This was so frustrating since I have had the watch for a year now and was very happy with it.  Any way hope this helps others.

    Using moon phase and/or sunrise/sunset complications on your watch face obviously should not be causing your watch to experience undue battery drain.

    The following steps may help:

    • On your iPhone go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services:
      • Check that:
        • Location Services is enabled (top setting);
        • In the list of applications beneath, check that Apple Watch Faces is set to While Using > While Using the App.
      • Next turn off Location Services (the main setting at the top), wait for a minute or so and then re-enable it.

    • Restart your iPhone and watch, turning both off together and then restarting your iPhone first.

    If the issue persists, I suggest that you contact Apple Support or make a Genius Bar reservation for assistance:
