Q: Can't access Google Docs now.  Was working fine

I was using my Mac book Pro with El Capitan to excess shared files in Google docs. This worked well until recently. I have tried removing cookies in history, Rebooting, having Google docs reset. I contacted Google Docs and they say the issue is with Safari.

Why was it working fine and then stopped? Will this be fixed?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

Hi. First check your Internet connection.

If you have problems opening webpages, take a look at these troubleshooting techniques suggested by Apple.

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204098

Go to Safari menu (At the very top right side of your screen next to Apple icon), choose "Quit Safari"

press "Shift" button and while holding this button on your keyboard single click on the Safari icon on your Dock.

Open Safari - Preferences - Privacy - Remove All Website Data.

Open the Go menu with Option (Alt) key pressed - Library - locate Safari folder and move it to your desktop. Restart your Mac, open Safari and delete the folder from your desktop.

Also, you may try these steps:

    Restart your Mac.

    Try Safe Boot:

    - Shut down your Mac

    - Wait until your computer turns off and after that press the Power button

    - Right after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key

    - Release the Shift key when you see a grey Apple sign and the progress bar below this sign

    - After your Mac boots up, restart it as you usually do.

If this doesn't help, follow the instructions below:

    - Shut down your Mac

    - Wait until your computer turns off and after that press the Power button

    - Right after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key

    - Release the Shift key when you see a grey Apple sign and the progress bar below this sign

    - Once you see Desktop, start a Disk Utility scan to detect and repair file system errors (don't forget to choose your main hard drive)

    - Click on Verify Disk and then, if asked to fix problems, on Repair Disk

    - After this, click on Verify Disk Permissions and then on Repair Disk Permissions

    - After the process is finished, shut down your Mac and turn it back on after about 30 seconds

Google Docs works fine with Safari. There is maybe a network or other software issue on your side.

Can you please tell us exactly what happens when you try? Do you get any error message? Login problems? What?

"It doesn't work" is too vague.

    As a test, you can:

    1) Try another browser;

    2) Create a new user account on your mac, launch Safari, see if you can access Google Docs.

We are not able to speculate when Apple will fix something, and really that depends if Safari is at fault or if Google is not interested in offering assistance.

While Chrome is not without it's faults it is the platform that Google develops it's Apps, and it's not Apples business to fix their software so it works with a 3rd party developers offerings except in rare cases like Microsoft.

if you recently changed something on your mac or added some new software that could be the cause, but if nothing has changed and you have not run any updates it's possible Google changed something on their end and there lies your problem.

    In no particular order:

you can try booting into Safe mode.

Creating a new user account, boot to that account.

    or try Google Chrome.

FWIW, Safari, Firefox and Chrome work fine with Google Docs. Probably with Opera as well. I would try D.Cohen's suggestions.

I can see the icons for documents, but cannot select them to open, or delete.  I can also click on a sub-folder and see those doc icons, but cannot access them.

Thanks for your reply.  This seems to be too onerous a process for a non-expert like me. I have installed a different browser, this does work, but is a work-around, not a solution.  I believe the prob started with an Apple update, as this was all working well from Safari until recently.  I called the Google Docs help: they told me they couldn’t get the proper data from Apple. I called the Apple help : they said it wasn’t their problem; all Googles fault.  Most of my problems lately have started right after an “update”  I think I need to avoid these in the future.
