Q: What is the maximum playback duration in Quicktime 7?

So I think I already have this answer, but would like to verify it.

Essentially, I make H.264/AAC recordings of various durations using a recording device.  These recordings are potentially unbounded, and may last 12 hours or more.

I have determined that any recording exceeding 12 hours 25 minutes 39 seconds will FAIL to play back in Quicktime 7, with the error "Error -2002: a bad public movie atom was found in the movie."  Note that all other media players play the media just fine (Windows Media Player, VLC, HTML5).

What I believe to be the case (and I would like someone to validate or invalidate this claim) is that Quicktime is automatically converting all "duration" quantities in the video to 96 kHz time reference, but maintaining a 32-bit container to hold it (so that the duration of a track will "roll over" at 12 hours, 25 minutes, 39.243 seconds).  The videos were created with a time frame reference of 1 millisecond, which should not roll over for 49+ days.

Can anyone tell me for certain that this is a limitation of Quicktime?
