Jul 8, 2016 1:02 PM in response to lllaassby _liam_boyle,I only got this computer a few days ago and have just recently tried to get it working so I actually don't know what Mac OS it is running. The graphics card model is ATI Radeon HD 2600. There are two DVI ports which are output ports on the graphics card. i have only had this computer a few days so I do not know if the DVI port did work okay before and I also do u know what osx version the mac is running. The fan does spin on the graphics card and yes I can hear the chime when the Mac is starting up

Jul 8, 2016 1:08 PM in response to _liam_boyleby lllaass,So nothing shows on the screen at all during bootup?
I suspect the graphics card has failed. Failure of an original ATI Radeon HD 2600 card is common after years.
Do you have another Mac with FireWire?

Jul 8, 2016 2:14 PM in response to _liam_boyleby lllaass,What model MacBook?
I would get a FW cable then connect the two Mac. Boot the problem on in Target Disk Mode:
How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode - Apple Support
Then bot the MacBook normally. Then you can access the HD(s) on the Mac Pro. If you right click and select Get infor the OSX version will be listed.
If you MacBook can run that OSX version, then with the Mac Pro still in Target Disk Mode, reboot the MacBook with the Option key depressed. You should see the Mac Pro's disk as a startup option. Try booting from that. If it boots that tends to indicate that the Mac Pro's graphics card is dead.
You can further test that by configuring the Mac Pro's OSX installation when booted from the Mac Pro's HD to setup Screen Sharing.

Setup screen sharing so the Mac pro does not have to approve connecting
Then boot both Macs normally when connected to same network and use Screen sharing to try to access the Mac Pro via Screen Sharing from the MacBook. If that works than yu have a bad graphics card in the Mac Pro.

Jul 8, 2016 2:49 PM in response to _liam_boyleby lllaass,Googling shows your MacBook has a Core 2 Duo and thus can go as high as Lion.
The 2008 Mac Pro can run as early as 10.5.1

Jul 8, 2016 2:56 PM in response to _liam_boyleby lllaass,★HelpfulYou do not need Lion. If the Mac Pro has OSX later than Lion then your MacBook can't boot from the disk in the Mac Pro
