FireWire for accessing the disks on the Mac Pro from the MacBook and if compatible OSX version, booting the MacBook from the Mac Pro's startup disk

FireWire for starting the MacBook using the Mac Pro's HD is the OSX version on the Mac Pro will run on the MacBook

Your MacBook may have FireWire 400 port. A FW 400 ports is more oblong than a FW 800 Port.
Thus, you mayneed a FR cable with FW 400 on one end and FW 800 on the other end
