Q: iPhone FaceTime always using data

My friend and I discovered that FaceTime still uses data even while connected to wifi. If you go to settings > cellular and stroll to FaceTime you'll see the numbers accumilating even while connected to wifi. Neither of us had been on data using FaceTime but he had used 130mb while I used 260mb. I turned off cellular data and called him back and it wouldn't connected at all. However, I was able to facetime my iPod with the cellular off. I'm not really sure how to get it to stop using data, but right now we're using other alternative video chat apps until we figure out what's going on.

    Hi there logic227,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities with your question about FaceTime using cellular data.  I use FaceTime to stay in touch with friends and family a lot and it's my pleasure to help you avoid using your cellular data with it.

First you'll want to update all devices to the latest version of iOS.

Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

You can do this over Wi-Fi:

    1. Plug your device in to power and connect to the Internet with Wi-Fi.
    2. Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
    3. Tap Download and Install. If a message asks to temporarily remove apps because iOS needs more space for the update, tap Continue or Cancel. Later, iOS will reinstall apps that it removed. If you tap Cancel, learn what to do next.
    4. To update now, tap Install. Or you can tap Later and choose Install Tonight or Remind Me Later. If you tap Install Tonight, just plug your iOS device in to power before you go to sleep. Overnight, your device will update automatically.
    5. If asked, enter your passcode.

To avoid using Cellular Data, go to Settings > Cellular > USE CELLULAR DATA FOR: and then scroll to FaceTime and turn the switch from green to off.  This will prevent FaceTime from using any cellular data.

    Best wishes,

I really wish you read my description. It literally states that I did all of those things you just said.
