Jul 9, 2016 10:56 AM in response to swdogby Niel,You need to either install it onto a blank partition or a second drive, or use a product such as DiskMaker X to create an installation thumbdrive, open the Disk Utility on it, erase the internal drive, and install the OS.

Jul 9, 2016 5:10 PM in response to swdogby kahjot,If you have a drive or partition available that has no OS installed, you can direct the OS X installer app to install onto that drive or partition. This option is available when you first launch the installer. If you have no bootable backup of your current system, you should get a drive, and clone your existing system onto it as a safety net before proceeding

* Check This for a clear Idea.* When you are updating it will ask you to format hard diskk just do it.* Once you Format That you are Good to go.***** Hope it Helps You ****** -
