Q: Time capsule with ftp

I want to backup my Macs to a external ftp can and how can this be done? Thanks

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

Depending on the type of Server you are talking about, you may be able to have Time Machine make a backup drive inside a file (a sparsebundle disk image) and perform its functions in the usual way.

 

This works great on a MacOS Server, but most aftermarket SAN devices cannot RESTORE the files created, because they cheat on the full implementation of Apple File Protocol, used for Time Machine's restore.

    Do you have a genuine Time Capsule, or something else?

     

    If you have a Time Capsule, forget about ftp and use:

    system preferences > Time Machine ...

       ... to designate the Time Capsule for your Backups and in half a day you will have a complete backup, and in another half a day, four more incremental Backups.

    I do have real time capsule however I want to backup my computers to my external server to prevent data loss (yes I know with time capsules, the data is safe) and I want them to backup automatically. So do I have to make a automator doucument?
