Radeon 8600 XT & Projector

I have a Dual G5 and the above mentioned graphics card. I want to use my computer to do a presentation at my church, meaning that I want to have my monitor hooked up and also have a projector hooked up too.

The software I bought is called LiveWorship and it needs a graphics card that has dual monitor support, which I should have. My graphics card has a DVI port & another port that looks like a DVI port but wider. Currently, I am using the DVI to connect my monitor.

What do I need to project through the projector? I looked on Apple's web site and didn't see anything for this. I assume there is a cable out there somewhere.

The other port is ADC. You need the ADC to VGA adapter or ADC to DVI adapter, depending on the display's connector. They are no longer on Apple's web-site, but are still available elsewhere. They should be less than $35.00
You do not want the DVI to ADC adapter, which is about $100.00

OK. So the other port is an ADC port. Anyone know what cable I can use to support my monitor and the projector?

Thanks... I found one ( Dr. Bott VGA Extractor for ADC Video Ports), but they seem to be in short supply.

I guess apple wants us to buy their displays (hence the ADC port), although they are nice... not everyone can afford them.

I find it interesting for them to say "Dual monitor support" on my G5, but you have to buy one of their monitors or get an adapter that is slowly dissappering in the market.

They should at least sell a converter cable on their site.

There are no ADC to VGA adapters anywhere in stock - including the manufacturers. So I had to get an ADC to DVI and I'll go from there.

A DVI to VGA adapter won't work after the ADC to DVI adapter because the ADC to DVI only passes the digital signals. You can use the ADC to DVI adapter for your DVI display using the ADC port on the card, then use a DVI to VGA adapter for the projector using the DVI port on the card.

For what it's worth, Apple has abandoned the ADC port. It was a nice idea but never really caught on (unless you consider that the HDMI connectors on HD TVs now do the same thing).

I know this doesn't help you now, but at least you know that if/when you buy a Mac Pro, both of its video card connectors are industry standard DVI.
