Q: Lost mode,  wifi connection for stolen iPod Touch

My son's iPod Touch was stolen yesterday. We put it in lost mode, (and contacted police) but my question is about wifi connection. My thought is that there is no chance of us tracking it down, since the iPod can't be connected to wifi unless it is unlocked and someone connects to it, correct? Unless the thief figures out his passcode? Is there any other way the thief can access and connect? It is an iPod Touch 5th generation. I'm just not sure what else to do for now, if anything. iCloud just tells us "offline"

Thanks for the help.

There's nothing to do except wait.

In the meantime, I'd make sure accounts to all online accounts (like like iTunes, credit cards, games, etc.) have their passwords changed. That way, all the account information is inaccessible to the thief.

Your only hope, and I mean hope, is the iPod will get within range of a wifi network that the iPod previously connected to. If that happens the lost will be implemented on the iPod. There is really very very little chance of that happening
