Thanks for coming to us in the Apple Support Communities for help. I understand that your keyboard is inputting different characters than intended. I know it's important to be able to effectively type with the provided keyboard, so I'm happy to provide some direction to resolve this.
It sounds as though the input source for your keyboard has been changed to a different language. To resolve this, open System Preferences > Keyboard > Input Sources. In here, remove any languages that you don't use by selecting them on the left, and clicking the minus (-) at the bottom.
To ensure that you have the correct language currently chosen, you can then check the box at the bottom to "Show Input menu in menu bar". Once that is enabled, you will see a flag in the top right of your menu bar near the time. Click it and select the correct language to continue typing as expected.
Cheers!

This indicates your machine thinks the option/alt key is stuck down. Since an external keyboard works ok, there is a good chance your internal one needs repair.

No, åß∂ƒ what you get when the option key is held down on the normal US keyboard.
