my keyboard sometimes stops responding, despite the above checked. then it works again only after i shut down and reboot my mac. is this normal? if not, could it be due to some application? eg, i have photoshop installed and use it all the time...

EtreCheck is widely recommended and used in these forums. So it’s been throughly vetted. You can check for yourself by just googling EtreCheck. There is one however, who is on a one man crusade against it and no one knows why.
