Q: iMovie Trims Out Portions Of The Video In Portrait Orientation.

I Have this wierd problem where I put a video filmed in portrait orientatio, whenever I insert it into iMovie, it automatically trims the top and bottom of the video, cutting the video into like a square shape. This is bad for me as I love to record gameplay videos in portrait orientation (I have to film it that way). But whenever I edit it, the top and bottom of the video is trimmed and it removes some information from the video (my currency and stuff like that).

Does anyone know any tricks to stop this?

Thanks.

    Hello Snavs,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

If I understand correctly, you are unable to see the entire frame of the video you are shooting in portrait mode when it is being used in iMovie.  I imagine since you are recording video games, it is cutting off important game information.

These steps should allow you to see the entire picture.

    1. When editing a clip, tap the preview pane.
    2. In the bottom right corner of the preview window you will see a magnifying glass with a '+' sign.
    3. Tap the '+' and you will see the words "Pinch to zoom video".
    4. Pinch out on your image until you can see the entire image.

You can find additional tips on how to use iMovie here:

    Cheers!
