My I Pod Classic 80gb won't sync with my I tunes

My I Pod Classic won't sync with my I Tunes when I connect, it goes to sync than to disconnect, than back to sync it does this two or three times and than total disconnect. My I Tunes shows my IPod and displays the music but I can't

add any music. Help Bob
