1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA hard drive failure

Hello, never posted before, so here goes. my i-mac 2010 hardrive has failed.

I would like to get a replacement can someone point me to a reliable source.. For a good replacement hardrive please. Also I think, apparently the hardrive must be SATA II, not III. The ones in my local computer store seem to be SATA III, SATA III will not work?????

I would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction. Also I am in the UK. So a UK supplier would be great. Many Thanks.

My first suggestion is to make an appointment at the Apple Genius Bar for service. If needed find an Apple Store - Find a Store - Apple. Check first to see if they can replace the disk for you. Unless you know how to disassemble your iMac and fix it, I would not recommend you try. As for a disk you should look in Disk Utility to see what the make and model number is for the bad drive, if you can. Good replacements are made by HSGT. You may need a special connector to override the disk's temperature sensor or your fan will run at full speed all the time. Look for more information and tutorials at OWC.

Almost all SATA III drives are compatible with SATA II disk controllers. They will work unless the model specifically states it is not backwards compatible.
