Q: apple tv & cable

We were told by an apply employee that we no longer needed our cable subscription to watch apps on our apple tv. Is this true? For example Food Network. I just spoke with our provider and they informed me that we do need cable to watch tv apps on apple tv. Maybe  i should've asked my provider before buying the apply tv for the family...

There are thousands of apps in the ATV App Store, including hundreds that are free. There are also apps that have a price to buy, but are free to use. Others require an app subscription. And still others that are free to get and use, but only if you have a cable/satellite service.

    it's 100% up to the channel they can make it free of  charge to use their app or make you pay for a subscription of any sort, suppose they would not be allowed to demand blood sacrifice though

    TThat's a totally misleading remark on that employee's part. The reality is "it depends". Is there an app for what you watch? Is the cable company also your internet provider?  Do you live somewhere where you can actually receive the programs that you watch over the air? So, let me apologize for that misleading remark. There is a lot of content that is broadcast via television that is available via AppleTV. You need to do some research.
