I'm trying 'back to my mac'.
I'm on a iMac OS X 10.11.5, 3,2 Ghz Intel Core i5, 24 GB RAM. I' trying to reach it on my new macbook air elswhere. Ik works all fine but it is to slow to use. Screensharing has to work faster, to work efficiently. What can I do to make it faster? Both macs are on a broadband network,

In comparison to TeamViewer and copying files from the same remote Mac the result is frapant:
b2mm is only downloading with ⅕ speed (41 KB!) of TeamViewer.
So, probably a Apple Server issue and not related to any modem or router settings...

Thx! I tried what is suggested in the link. It didn't work out. Back to my mac stays very slow :-(
Broadband is a broad concept. Is it symmetric or asymmetric. In other words: is your upload speed much slower than your download speed? And how much is it (the upload speed I mean).
Upload speed = 20 Mbps
So, that essentially is 2 megabyte per second. Accessing a big desktop with that transfer rate will never break any speed records...
That's strange. I used an app called Screens ( http://edovia.com/screens/) and that worked perfectly! I have the highest possible upload speed, I can't upgrade anymore.
Could there be some kind of software conflict perhaps? Have you checked if speed is better in another (clean) user account on your MacBook? Checked all the settings as mentioned in https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204618
