Q: ipod classic 80 gb doesn't load songs

Hi,

i'm an italian guy and I have an old ipod classic 80 gb, but it was held with care.

i tried to upload songs, about 1000 (i was first shure they were totally less then 60 gb) but at the 800th it stops and my computer (late 2015) with itunes crashes.

Do you know if the problem is caused by my computer or by the age of the ipod due to the discontinued model?

Thanks

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9), no ret. display macbook pro 13 2013

See Corrupt iPod Classic. What are the HDD stats?

Try the DFU restore or reformat methods to release the currently pending sectors so they become added to the reallocation list. 5,000 is quite a chunk but the iPod has over 16,000 block set aside for this so there is a chance you can get the device back to a stable position. If/when you can get the pendings cleared try the break-up large transfers method and check the stats periodically. Start over if there are new pendings.

When i press menu+select buttons for 12 seconds my ipod display went blank. Then I open itunes and i select restore ipod, but after about 10 seconds the display becomes white and the "ban" symbol appears with the words do not disconnect.

    Should i do anything else?

    Thanks

Sounds like you just need to let iTunes deal with it. After a while it should pop-up like a brand new device. Check the stats afterwards to see if all the pendings have been converted.

Hi, the ipod can't be restored, i tried lots of times but anything changed. I think it's impossible to repair it. I just need to replace the HDD.

    Don't you think so?

Thanks if you want we can meet in FBook and try to solve the problem there

I'd have a go at reformatting first before completely giving up on the drive.

also, lots of times when i try to reformat after the mac says the it's preparing the ipod to reset (or whatever it says in english ) and then the ipod display goes totally white for a while. Do you think i have to replace the HDD?

    Thanks

Going white may be part of the restore process. If you have a Mac you could try asking a Windows owning friend to restore the device and pass it back. Using the other platform sometimes does a better job of rebuilding the file system on the device and releasing the pending sectors. If they won't clear, or the numbers just go on increasing, then that would suggest that it is time for a new drive.
