Q: Can I safely delete duplicate calendars?

A multiplicity of calendars has been created by an unknown force

resulting in event notifications cascading down the R side of my

screen. Each calendar seems to have the same info and only one

is activated in Prefs. Deleting one (Control-click on it) takes a full

minute - there isn't any other obvious way to delete. What's the

root cause of their creation? Thank, Tom

Thanks - am not sure the article deals with my version of OS - I

went to d.l. a copy of the Calendar data per instructions on

Archive or make copies of your iCloud data - Apple Support

but even though iCloud Drive is activated, the referenced d.l.

arrow in my iCloud calendar only produces a popup stating

No Notifications - so unable to proceed. But I do have a

Time Machine backup - do I need to bother with the d.l.?

Move the Calendars folder from your Users/Home/Library folder to the Desktop.  Go into Time Machine and go back far enough so that you should not have all of the duplicates.  Restore that version and see where you are.

Another approach is if the checked calendars in the screenshot are all you need export them to the Desktop.  After moving the Calendar folder to the Desktop, reboot, launch Calendar and import those two calendars.  See if if you just get one copy of each and it stays that way.

I don't see a Calendar in my home folder  - moreover

the Library folder resides in Users, not my home. Is

this incorrect? The Users library doesn't have Calendar

    either.

NOTE: In Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite and El Capitan the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

For Mavericks, Yosemite amd El Capitan go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring up this window:

Now you'll be able to find the Calendars folder inside your Library folder.

Upon opening Calendar after the reboot it seems as if

Calendars has acquired my iCloud calendar. I haven't

imported the one I'd exported however as I now have

only one On My Mac and another in iCloud I think I'm

    ok without importing.

Thanks very much for the fix, OT!
