Q: Apple Watch Update 2.2.1 stalls at installing

I am unable to install update 2.2.1.  Each time I try the install process gets past "verifying" then stalls at the "installing" message on the iPhone and never completes.  I've tried restarting both devices, tried reseting the watch, unpairing and repairing, nothing seems to help.

Mac OS X (10.7.1)

    Hi

    Try the following steps, which have helped some other users with issues at or before the "verifying" stage.

    However, do not interrupt your iPhone or watch if the process has already reached the "installing" stage on your watch.

    • On your iPhone, close the Watch app and all other open apps:
      • Double-click the Home button, then swipe upwards on each app preview.
    • Remove your watch from the charger and restart both devices:
      • Turn both off together, then restart your iPhone first;
      • To turn your watch off: press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; drag it to turn off;
      • To turn it back on: press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.
    • Replace your watch on the charger, keep your iPhone connected to power and try updating again by following the instructions here:

    Make sure your iPhone iOS is up to date prior to updating your Apple Watch.

    On your iPhone tap Settings > General > Software Update

    Latest iOS for an iPhone is v9.3.2

    If necessary, install that update THEN update your Apple Watch. Make sure your Apple Watch has at least a 50 percent charge.

    I've tried the suggestions, no improvement.  iPhone was already at the latest IOS version.  No beta profiles on watch or phone.

    Next try the following:

    • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > General > Usage > Software Update - delete the update file.

    Then try again to update the software, ensuring that:

    • Both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are enabled on your iPhone.
    • Both devices are connected to power and the watch has at least a 50% initial charge level.
    • Your watch is connected to your iPhone (check the connection status via the Settings Glance):
      • When viewing the time on your watch, swipe up on your watch face > swipe left / right to the Settings Glance > check that this states Connected and shows a green phone icon. Disable Airplane Mode if it is enabled.
    • Your iPhone and watch are close together.
    • After verification has completed, you allow time for the installation to start.

    Thanks for the suggestion Jonathan.  Unfortunately it didn't solve my problem.  The watch restarted after verification, the phone is stuck on "Installing", left it hours before switching away from the Watch app, no install occurred.
