Q: Find my iPhone, offline
Hi guys,
I got my iPhone 6 stolen around 48 hours ago.. I could only connect to internet about 12 hours after it happened. The device is still not coming online on "find my iPhone" therefore I was wondering can a thieves somehow wipe out all of my info and make my iPhone untraceable? I mean what use does it has if it is still off, right? they might have found a way to make it appear offline?
what are your thoughts, have anybody recovered and apple product using Find my iPhone?
cheers guys. I'll appreciated it any kind of help.
iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.2

Find My iPhone requires some form of data connection to the internet to send details back to Apple's servers. There is nothing you can do to alter that & unfortunately if the device is powered off or has wifi & cellular data turned off it won't communicate with Apple.
iCloud's find my iPhone feature locks a device to the Apple ID, so the thieves cannot reuse it. If someone attempts to erase or use iTunes to reinstall iOS it will ask them for your Apple ID password but they could erase your data in the iOS install process. Obviously if the iPhone had a password that can stop them reading your data, but they cannot turn off find my iPhone without your iCloud password.
Apple do their best to make it possible to find devices or make them unusable when stolen, however thieves still try to reuse or sell them.
Good luck in finding your device, it may be that someone eventually powers it on & it pops up.
