Q: Wireless direct printing from iPad Pro w/o third-party app?

Unless the printer you want to print to supports AirPrint, no, you'd need an app.

If the printer is cable of creating an ad hoc WiFi network, it might work. My HP inkjet printer doesn't need a third party app it can work over ad hoc. However, that might be more likely to be a feature of consumer printers than business ones.

It's  called peer to peer. If you can see your printer in your choice of available wifi networks you can print to it.

Ah! I thought you were trying to print through existing network printers. Yes, you should be able to find a printer that supports ad hoc networking. I don't know if there are laser printers that will do that as I've no experience with them. However, ink jet printers should be pretty easy to find. I'd suggest poking around on Amazon. Even if you don't buy their, the reviews can sometimes be helpful.
