Q: Macbook Pro problems: It freezes occasionally and cursor is uncontrollable.
MACBOOK PRO (RETINA, 15-INCH,EARLY 2013). OS X 10.9.5
Processor: 2.7 GHz intel Core i7
Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Storage Capacity: 512 GB
Ever since installed Mavericks version towards the end of 2014, I have had a series of problems that has now rendered my laptop useless. Kindly help. Below are the details:
Initially, the laptop froze at the login screen for hours, sometimes over a day. Thereafter, it would work normally for several weeks with occasional short freezes. After sometime the freezing stopped. Late last year, a new problem emerged, a very uncontrollable cursor, clicking anything hence opening everything it clicks on. When connected to the mouse, the cursor highlighted everything on its path when I moved it around without clicking (existing problem). Thus, I stopped using the mouse. After resting the laptop for a day or two, it would work normally for days then the problem starts again. Early this year, the problem stuck and I could not do anything on the laptop. Right now, after days of rest, I can only work on it for a few minutes then the jumpy cursor starts doing its magic. I have read and tried doing everything suggested in the community for jumpy cursor with no success. Since I'm in Kenya, I can only access an Authorized Service Provider, no Apple Store. So about 3-4 months ago,I went to Elite Digital Service Centre in Mombasa, Kenya. Upon, inspection of the machine, I was informed that I need to have the uppercase replaced due to swollen battery (I can not feel or see the swollen top case as result of the swollen battery!!) The cost for the whole process+parts then was a whooping US$1400(approx.) and it would take at least 2 months to have the parts shipped to Kenya. I lost hope in saving my dear MBP. How can I have this problem checked and solved at a reasonable cost?
NB: I don't have Apple Care and the issues started when warranty had expired and I was thousands of miles from the closest Apple Store.
