Q: Mail won't sign me in

My mac book pro was stolen, and since replacing it, I've been trying to add my gmail account to 'mail'. The only account existing in mail is a iCloud account. When I try to add my gmail account it says it already exists. Could that be because it could be signed in on my stolen mac? Please help

I'm sure if your mac was stolen the person that stole it would have to reset the hard drive on the computer to use or sell the system, so if your account is still on the computer it will most likely get erased on that system. If you need to access your email I suggest using your browser in the meantime.

Try Mail/Preferences/Accounts /Account Information. Select an account, then go to Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP). From the drop down menu select Edit SMPT server list. See if the account is listed there. If so, delete the SMTP server for the account. Try to add the Mail account again.

You can also check System Preferences/Internet Accounts to see if the account is there.

Having the account installed on the computer that was stolen doesn't affect the new computer.
