My MacBook will no longer convert movies

I Have a 15" MacBook Pro late 2008 and it will not covert any movie files correctly. It will either say file not found or it will try and convert and the video is glitchy with the audio way off. I ran a diagnostics test and the only problem the computer found was a battery sensor. I have used multiple apps to convert and all with the same results and the same with different videos. Please help!! I have the latest software downloaded El Capitan

Convert using what app?

can you find the file(s) in Finder and using Get Info do they look like valid video files?

When converting open Activity Monitor and see what is using CPU? You may have an unexpected process using CPU causing the glitches.

It appears you may have more than one problem, the glitches and the file(s) not found

Jul 14, 2016 1:44 AM in response to Purgy33

In addition to other problems, you have that infamous "Mac Keeper" scamware. You should completely delete that, but there is no way to know how much harm this has already done.

Since you are upgrading the RAM, do yourself a big favor:

-put in a new SSD instead of that paltry old HD (which may be failing at any moment, anyway)

-do a clean install of El Capitan

-never use or install any cleaners or antivirus on your mac
