Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you are needing to insert a nano SIM card in the iPhone SE. I know how important it is to be able to insert the SIM card to be able to activate the iPhone as well. Check out this article here that tell you how to Remove or switch the SIM card in your iPhone or iPad.
Even though the SE is not specifically listed, it's the same steps as what is listed for the iPhone models with the card on the side.
